Dog lovers gathered at the Queen Elizabeth pub in Chingford on Saturday 29 August for a dog show in aid of Animal SOS Sri Lanka, a UK-based non-profit charity dedicated to helping vulnerable animals in Sri Lanka.
Actor Peter Egan and TV presenter Jan Leeming judged the show. Both are official patrons of the charity.
The event was organised by the charity's founder, Kim Cooling. "One of the nicest things is seeing how willing people are to get involved and support the animals," she said.
"Caring for so many animals is an enormous undertaking, so community fundraising events in the UK play an important part."
More than 2,220 rescued dogs and cats are currently living at the charity's sanctuary in Ahangama, Sri Lanka, and many arrive with serious injuries, disabilities or a history of abuse. The charity also feeds more than 2,700 cats and dogs.
Among the winners on the day was Addie, one of Kim's dogs, who took the 'Best Rescue' category.
Animal SOS Sri Lanka was set up in 2007 in honour of Rama, a dog Kim and her husband, Gary, rescued while on holiday in Phuket, Thailand, in 1998.
The show was such a success that the organisers have confirmed it will "definitely" return next year.
