Around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a metal recycling centre on the Argall Avenue Industrial Estate in Leyton on Tuesday morning (8 September).
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) sent eight fire engines after it was called at 6.44am. Crews came from Leyton, Homerton, Walthamstow and surrounding fire stations.
The LFB said that at its height, around 20 tonnes of scrap metal were alight. One of the brigade's 32-metre ladders and a drone team were used to help put the fire out.
The fire was declared under control at 9.57am, and firefighters had left the scene by 1pm.
While the fire was burning, people living in the immediate area were advised to keep their doors and windows closed because of the large amount of smoke.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
At 1pm, Waltham Forest Council posted on social media that the fire had been put out and all London Fire Brigade appliances had left.
